Get to Know Rod MacKenzie – your Perth Nomads captain

Rod MacKenzie didn’t have to wait long to achieve one of golf’s ultimate goals.

At 15, playing on the 3rd Hole at Lonehill Country Club, Rod connected sweetly with his 7 Iron to ace the hole.

What a great start to his golfing career.

It’s been 33 years since that fateful day and Rod, the 2024 Perth Nomads Club Captain, is still waiting patiently for his second hole-in-one.

Rod, who is a chartered accountant by training, was invited to join Nomads four years ago by Dave Bartlett. In four years, Rod has played 38 games and has assumed the top Nomads job in Western Australia at the start of the year.

Its great to be part of a club that shares such great camaraderie and gives a lot back to the community,’’ he says.

Even though we are from all walks of life generally we have the same outlook.’’

Rod has been married to his wife Nicky for 24 years and together they have two boys – Matt (19) and Neil (18). While currently looking for his next working adventure, his last position was that of CFO of a Drill and Blast Consumables business.

So, who would Rod chose to play with his ultimate four-ball?

Tiger, Ernie and Trevor Immelmann,’’ he says. “Three of my favourite golfers. Tiger because he is Tiger. Ernie for the swing and the party afterwards, and Trevor for his analysis and mental approach.

“If I had to choose a golf course to play at it would be Augusta. But of the courses I have played, Lake Karrinyup in Perth is my favourite.’’
