Nomads Brisbane raises $34,000 for RizeUp

Congratulations to Nomads Brisbane on hosting yet another successful Charity Day.

More than 90 players teed off in May at the tight, and challenging, Gailes Golf Club in the western suburbs of Brisbane.

More than $34,000 was raised for the club’s chosen charity – RizeUp.

RizeUp provides practical support to families fleeing domestic violence situations.

Families fleeing violent households often enter a refuge with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

RizeUp has created various programs to support and empower these courageous families.

When a family leaves a refuge, RizeUp furnishes their new accommodation with everything they need to make it a home, so they can make a fresh start.

Nomads Brisbane vice captain Rob Ross explains why he chose RizeUp as the 2022 charity.

“I chose RizeUp as a direct result of seeing horrific incidents of domestic violence play out in public with the Tara Brown and Hannah Clarke deaths by their former partners.

“This led me to researching more about Domestic Violence (a scourge in our society as one in three women experience physical or sexual violence perpetrated by someone known to them) and options available to victims of this abuse, of which there are not many.

“RizeUp is an organisation, with no government funding, which provides home contents to victims so that when they leave the shelters they have a fully furnished sanctuary to move into.

“As a result of my research, I not only took RizeUp on as the Nomads’ Charity for 2022 but also volunteer for them in creating the sanctuaries.”

So far Rob has worked on helping to put together two RizeUp homes.

“Honestly it is the most rewarding and humbling thing I have ever done and I would encourage everyone to get involved.”

Again, well done Rob – and Nomads Brisbane.
